Chief Iron Horse System
Chief Adrian Roman; The Last Descendent
“Thousands of years
before Columbus and others ‘discovered’ America my Native people lived in
cultured tribes throughout a brave and free land. Long before the white man set
foot on North America, The Americans Indian hunted wild game with the bow and
arrow and other weapons. Despite The United States attempts to destroy their
unique traditions, Flames of knowledge still flicker in the hearts of Indian
warriors.” Chief Iron Horse
Dedication
As a young boy
growing up in Oklahoma in the 40’s and 50’s, I was exposed to the elders of my
people. I’m appreciative to my
father, grandfather, uncles and close friends of the family for sharing their
skills with me. I honor each
of them for the wisdom they were able to pass on to me.
That information is the root and foundation of the Iron Horse System.
They were from
another time and place, but they took me under their wing and exposed me to much
information that would be lost by their passing.
That information was sealed away for 40 or 50 years as I began to learn about
others warrior arts of the world. In the end I realized that the material I was
taught was timeless.
Today, as I share this information, I feel fulfilled in bringing this knowledge back to life from my heritage. I step forward and make available the unique fighting system of my American Indian people. I will carry the spear in honor of all the fallen warriors that came before me. Their spirit has entrusted me with the noble title Supreme Chief Iron Horse; Bashpo-Tushka, the Knife Warrior. Native Choctaw Falammichi:to Defend,to Restore
The Mississippi
Choctaw people specifically Adrian Roman’s bloodline are the
founding fathers of Tushkahoma. Tushkahoma in English translates to Red
Warrior, and today we refer to the unarmed system that evolved from it as
Falammichi
Ibbak
Chukillissa. The armed combative system is referred to as
Falammichi
Ibbak Bashpo. The Spiritual essence of Iron Horse System is Falammichi and is
loosely translated means to defend and restore however, it can also mean to
dance, to sing, to love, to live. Ibbak simply means hand while Chukillissa
means empty. Bashpo directly translated means knife while it can also refer
to just the blade excluding the hilt. Put into context of martial way Iron
Horse/Falammichi Ibbak Chukillissa means to “Defend and Restore with the
Empty Hand” and Iron Horse/Falammichi Ibbak Bashpo means to “Defend and
Restore with the Bladed Hand”. My elders tell me that our people, the
Mississippi Choctaw were not secluded to the Mississippi valley but our
people traveled as far north on the Mississippi river to
the Midwest and as far south as the Gulf at the mouth of the river.
The Mississippi
Band of Choctaws is the homeland of Grandmaster Adrian Roman, 4/4
Mississippi Choctaw affectingly known as “the Chief” for the last sixty five
years. He is the founder of Iron Horse Ibbak Chukillissa and Iron Horse
Ibbak Bashpo the only American Indian martial arts being taught today.
He stands as the sole survivor, last will and testament of our
ancient martial ways ushering Tushkahoma (Red Warrior) into modern times as
Iron Horse/Falammichi. He is the last living descendent of that era.
Traditionally speaking our people go through four phases in our lifetimes
which cause for four unique names to define the people we are presently.
Iron Horse System is ushered into the modern world as the complete,
sophisticated, and refined traditional martial ways. Beginning as Tushka
Itishi (warrior wrestling) Tushkahoma (Red Warrior) , a term only known to
the modern martial arts world since the new millennium, has its roots in the
Mississippi Valley for thousands of years. Later named Iron Horse/Falammichi
Ibbak Chukillissa completely refined to fit modern America encompassing
street self defense as all other martial arts has done just in the later
part of the 1900’s.
The Mississippi Band are still living in the Valley today refusing to relocate during the removal of American Indians to “Indian Country” better known as Oklahoma in modern times. According to Horatio Cushman, a historian of Mississippian Culture stated that 12,000 B.C. Paleo-Indians moved into the southeast and that the Choctaws of that time witnessed extinction of large fauna like mammoths and species of bison. Clearly any logical man, woman, or child can see through the archaeological evidence provided in this account American Indian Martial Arts has existed here in North America at least since the end of the last Ice Age. Grandmaster Roman is the last of our Martial Arts Historians, The Highest Ranking American Indian Martial Artist in the World, passing down knowledge of our people for All People to participate as his Father and Grandfathers before him. To Summarize: The early American Indian history begins near 12,500 B.C. because of the archeological discovery of projectile points found in the Mississippi Valley region. Making points is a very sophisticated process even today with modern tools. The reason for the mass production of points was to be use in war fare, protection of family, cities, territory and their way of life. Prior to making tools and projectile points, the early American Indian would have first defended himself with empty hands. What and how they referred to it by name will always be a mystery. The only livening Choctaw descendent today Adrian Roman calls it simply Iron Horse. The founder of this system was created by Adrian Roman, a 70 year old Choctaw Indian from Oklahoma. Roman is a 9th degree black belt in the late Grandmaster Edmond K. Parker American Kenpo System. After Parkers death in 1990 Roman began to borrow some of Parkers principals and created Iron Horse. Information provided by Andrew "Nashoba" Blackwell.
I began blending Parkers principals with information and movements (ilhkoli) learned as a young boy in the 40’s and 50’s from his Native elders in Oklahoma and began to teach it. Parker created his system in an era when a larger system and longer techniques was better. We know we can accomplishes the same with a absolute smaller body of work and shorter absolute techniques. This system is in keeping with Parkers principals yet adding my philosophy of shorter techniques with the underlying theme of total control. There is a conscious among the public that Kenpo is a dying art. Parker has been gone 22 years and his system was in place for 10 years prior to his death, therefore the material is 30 years old. If he were alive today, his system would be totally different through evolution of innovation, new insight and philosophy. Most American Kenpo taught today is 3rd, 4th hand generation and resemble nothing like the material he taught prior to his death. As a 1st generation under Parker my Iron Horse is the NEW Material. My philosophies, the Movement of Life, Seven Sacred Feathers are the cornerstone of Iron Horse Kenpo and Falammichi: to defend, to restore is the underlying philosophy behind it. My system was introduced in 2000 and has evolved into something of which I am very proud. We have small, but growing, numbers. Through the involvement of family members and close friends, that will change. Last but not least is my Falammichi Philosophy. My first form Achafa Set (meaning one/first in Choctaw) in my Iron Horse System is available to view on YouTube web site. There are eight techniques that make up the Achafa Set.

Chief’s Red Warrior $500 1st thru 9th degree rank available This system was founded and created by Choctaw “Chief” Adrian Roman. This system was recognized by Black Belt Magazine in a 6 page article in Dec 04 issue. It is the first time that a magazine with worldwide creditability recognized an American Indian System. This material is the prelude into Falammichi. Twenty eight movements were selected as the core material to create Falammichi. Take this program to get a jump start into Falammichi. Expert Knife Certification 1st level $500 This program has nothing but knifes techniques. A blend of the Red Warrior and Iron Horse. The movements teach you to defend against a knife attack. Once in control, it becomes offensive with finish out movements. It is some of the best work that I have done. Take this program if you want to become proficient in knife defense. In January of 2000, after reading countless articles by knife fighting experts, I began offering Bashpo Tushka (Choctaw for “knife warrior”) knife defense training based on fighting concepts of my native people. I felt compelled to move forward with what has been a long-time plan because of the misinformation that exists with regard to knife fighting. I cringe when I see and read articles with techniques that advocate kicking a knife out of an attacker’s hand or attempt to block with one arm and then strike with the other. In stylized photos those techniques may look effective – but they don’t work. "You must control the hand that holds the knife" Other articles discuss fighting knife to knife; but how many law-abiding people carry an easily accessible fighting knife at all times? If you have to carrying a knife at all times perhaps you are hanging out in the wrong part of town! People who must, for whatever reason, carry a deadly weapon will probably prefer a gun. For many reasons it just more practical to learn to disarm an opponent who has a knife. Any confrontation with a knife attacker carries grave danger but there are concepts, principles and techniques that will help you increase your odds for survival. This program will prepare you for an encounter with the knife. You will learn some general principles and solid knife-defense techniques.
